The biotechnology industry in Spain has experienced an astonishing 350% growth in the last four years. According to Eurostat, the European Statistical Agency, R&D investment in biotechnology in Spain during the 1998-2003 period grew 7.7% compared to an average of 4% for the European Union as a whole.
Spanish biotechnology is experiencing a rate of growth four times higher than the average of the European Union-15. Following that trend, the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and the Trade Commission of Spain in Chicago have been supporting resolutely the Spanish biotechnology industry and the presence of its companies around the world.
