NEW - Noteworthy Web Articles Moving to this Site

May 22, 2012

We're excited about a new way to bring noteworthy Web articles to your attention! From April 2003 to December 2011, we posted monthly compilations of biotech articles we found on the Web...6,592 in total.

In January 2012, we began experimenting with two different classifications: our standard method for summarizing and linking to technical articles plus a new method based on the Functional Topics of this BioBlog. What we discovered is

  1. The time required for formatting the separate reports more than doubled
  2. The monthly postings meant that important articles would already have been published a month or more before we highlighted them
  3. "Highlighting" between 60 and 110 articles at one time meant we weren't really highlighting ANY of them.

Yes, we did experiment with highlighting our "favorites" at the top of each report, but that didn't solve the problem of timeliness.

After a lot of deliberation, we're now going to be posting summaries and links to Web articles here at BioBlog. They'll be classified under the various Functional Topics listed on the right. We'll also compile them as Noteworthy Web Articles under the Information category on the left, with the latest links posted at the top of each month's list.

This dual classification will help you to identify the latest articles we find for you each month as well as to help you locate articles related to specific topics you're interested in.
